How QuestWorks Works
QuestWorks is an AI-powered Slack app that builds remote team culture through collaborative, voice-based quests inspired by Dungeons & Dragons. Connection is a daily practice, not a quarterly event. Here is exactly how it works.
Getting Started — Five Steps from Install to Impact
Everything your team needs to go from zero to playing together, explained step by step.
Install QuestWorks in Slack
Adding QuestWorks to your Slack workspace takes under one minute. Click "Add to Slack" and authorize the app. QuestWorks automatically creates a #questworks channel. No other setup is required from workspace admins.
Create Your Character
Each team member types /onboard in any Slack channel. Onboarding takes about two minutes. Players choose a Hero Type — a personality framework built into gameplay that maps real-life strengths and communication styles to a character archetype. Hero Types shape how players interact in quests and help teammates understand each other's work styles from day one. Players name their character and optionally connect Google Calendar for automatic scheduling. No gaming experience required.
Get Matched and Join a Session
QuestWorks integrates with team calendars and automatically identifies when 2+ players have overlapping availability -- no Doodle polls, no scheduling nightmares. The company-wide lobby matches players across teams and departments, so engineers play with designers, product plays with ops. When a session forms, eligible players get a Slack DM with quest length (10-55 minutes) and a join link. Participation is entirely voluntary -- players accept or decline with no penalty, no mandates, no guilt. Five minutes before each session, players get a reminder.
Play the Quest
Players click a link to join a voice-based session in their browser. Microphone required, camera optional. An AI facilitator leads quest parties of 2-5 players -- matched across teams and departments via the company-wide lobby -- through a dynamic, collaborative adventure. The AI creates scenarios that respond to player choices in real time. Built-in personality frameworks (Hero Types) reveal work styles and communication preferences, helping teammates understand each other from session one. Every session is unique and player-driven — no fixed puzzles or predetermined solutions. Includes immersive music, ambient soundscapes, and voice acting. Players use real-life strengths to solve challenges and experiment in a no-pressure setting. Sessions are capped at one hour per player per week.
Track Growth and Measure Outcomes
After each session, players earn XP and receive AI-powered growth insights. Slack commands: /mystats (progress), /leaderboard (rankings), /inventory (items). Admins access QuestDash for engagement metrics, skills developed, and team chemistry trends.
AI-Facilitated Sessions — No Human Host Required
Every session is facilitated entirely by AI. The AI creates scenarios that respond to player choices in real time, adapting to group dynamics and session length. Every session is dynamically generated -- no fixed puzzles with predetermined solutions. It guides the narrative, presents challenges, tracks contributions, and provides post-session insights.
If a player leaves mid-session, the AI adjusts and remaining players continue. The AI draws on each player's Hero Type -- a personality framework built into gameplay -- to personalize the experience and help teammates understand each other's work styles.
There is no human facilitator to schedule, no moderator to train, and no recurring labor cost. The AI runs every session from start to finish.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is this different from other team building?
Traditional team building is infrequent, forced, and forgettable. QuestWorks is daily instead of quarterly, voluntary instead of mandatory, drop-in/drop-out instead of a scheduling nightmare, skill-building instead of just socializing, measurable with real progress tracking, and fun without being awkward or cringe. Connection is a daily practice, not a quarterly event. The company-wide lobby matches players across teams and departments -- engineers play with designers, product plays with ops. Think of it as the gym membership for team dynamics: show up consistently, put in reps, and the results follow.
Is this like a virtual escape room?
Not quite. Escape rooms have fixed puzzles with predetermined solutions. QuestWorks is totally dynamic and player-driven — every session is new and different based on player choices and strengths. While it includes immersive music, ambience, and voice acting like escape rooms, the focus is on developing real collaboration skills through open-ended storytelling. Think of it more like a living, breathing "third place" for the remote workplace.
How much time does QuestWorks take away from work?
QuestWorks is capped at 1 hour per player per week. Players control how to use their time between 10-55 minute sessions. Quest lengths are clearly displayed before joining any lobby, so players can choose sessions that fit their available time.
How do players coordinate their schedules?
They don't have to. QuestWorks integrates with team calendars and automatically identifies when 2+ players have overlapping availability -- no Doodle polls, no scheduling nightmares. When a potential session forms, eligible players receive an invite with the quest length clearly displayed (10-55 minutes). Participation is entirely voluntary -- players simply click "Join" or "Decline" with no penalty for declining, no mandates, no guilt. This eliminates the coordination friction that kills most team activities.
Do we need to know anything about D&D or gaming?
Not at all. The system is designed to be instantly accessible to everyone, regardless of gaming experience. The onboarding process gets everyone up to speed in about two minutes.
How long does it take to get started?
Just minutes. Add the QuestWorks Slack app to your workspace (under one minute), then team members onboard individually by typing /onboard in any channel (about two minutes each). No admin configuration needed beyond the initial install.
What if someone leaves a session early?
No problem at all. The AI facilitator adapts seamlessly, and the remaining players continue with the quest. There is no penalty for leaving early.
